22 Domed Transfiguration Church

Description

On the Island of Kizhi above the arctic circle on Lake Onega there are stunning sights. There are two famous wooden churches that attract most attention. This 18th century 22 domed Transfiguration Church and the smaller Intercession Church with only 9 domes. This wooden church was built without using a single nail. The unknown builder destroyed his axe upon completion with the word "There was not -and will not be-another to match it" He was not wrong. This was the best view although I took others. More on this amazing architectural wonder with other posts.
